November 16th, 2012 a oil rig platform caught on fire . Eleven people were evacuated and nine more were transported by helicopter to hospitals. Just 17 miles south of Grand Isle , Louisana. Two more people went missing during this event. Quoted from Reuters“The incident occurred a day after oil giant BP agreed to pay a record $4.5 billion in penalties for the 2010 Gulf oil spill that killed 11 workers and spewed 4.9 million barrels of oil.” The people injured worked for Grand Isle Shipyard Inc. which provides its employees to Black Elk Energy Offshore Operations. The fire started from employees working on welding a pipe on a deck on the platform in shallow waters. A total of twenty-two people were on the rig when this incident occured. The coast guard searched for the two missing people for all day saturday and scoured a total of 1400 square miles but no one was recovered. Laater on saturday evening , a diver found the body of one of the men but his name has still not been released. Divers have still not found the second man yet though. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, which enforces offshore drilling regulations, is investigating. People should be more careful, although accidents do happen.
